“A podcast is a published work. Treat it with the same care, planning, and professionalism as a book—because to your audience, it IS your book, just in audio form.”
— L.A. Walton, The Book Maven
Launching a podcast feels deceptively simple: buy a mic, record, upload, done. But the podcasts that survive past Episode 10 are the ones that treat the medium as a craft, not a casual hobby.
The Podcast Launch Checklist
| Phase | What to Do |
| Concept | Define your niche, audience, and unique angle. Why should someone listen to YOU? |
| Format | Solo? Interview? Narrative? Choose a format that matches your strengths. |
| Equipment | Quality mic ($60–$200), headphones, and basic editing software. |
| Branding | Cover art, show name, intro/outro music, and a consistent visual identity. |
| Episodes | Record 3–5 episodes before launching. Launch with a bank, not a single. |
| Hosting | Choose a podcast host (Buzzsprout, Anchor, Libsyn). They distribute to Apple, Spotify, etc. |
| Launch | Promote across all channels. Ask for reviews. Consistency is king from day one. |
Podcast Sustainability Tips
- Batch-record. Record 4 episodes in one session. Schedule them out. Breathe.
- Repurpose content. Turn episodes into blog posts, social clips, and newsletter content.
- Engage your audience. Ask questions, respond to comments, create community.
- Set a realistic schedule. Weekly is ideal. Biweekly is fine. Whatever you choose, be CONSISTENT.
- Improve incrementally. Episode 50 doesn’t need to sound like Episode 1. Growth is expected and welcomed.
Your Move, Creative
Define your podcast in one sentence: ‘[Podcast Name] helps [audience] with [topic] through [format].’ If you can nail that sentence, you have a viable concept. Everything else follows.
Stop letting your stories stay stuck.
